Abstract

A total of 45 species of legumes, comprising four members of Mimosaceae, eight of Caesalpiniaceae and 33 of Papilionaceae, were examined for nodulation. Nodules were observed in all examined species of Mimosaceae and Papilionaceae. Nodules were not found in any of the species of Caesalpiniaceae; they possessed black, wiry fibrous roots. All attempts to induce nodulation in these species by means of inoculation were unsuccessful. Eighteen species are new records.
