The role of high soil temperatures in the damping-off of true potato seedlings in the lowland tropics

Fritz Elango

Abstract

Soil temperatures above 30°C induced significant wilting and weight loss in transplanted seedlings raised from true potato seed. Such soil temperatures also predisposed transplants to damping-off caused by Rhizoctonia solani Kiihn, sclerotial stage of Thanatephorus cucumeris (Frank) Donk. The implications of reducing soil temperatures on control of damping-off in seedlings are discussed.
