Abstract

The potential of the winged bean as tropical forage was investigated. It gave lower yields of fresh herbage and dry matter when cut at fortnightly intervals than every 4-6 weeks under normal rainfall conditions. With scanty rainfall, the cutting interval had no significant effect on these yields. The optimum planting density was 100 000 plants ha-1. Inadequate rainfall appears to be a limiting factor in forage production.
