Abstract

The requirements for in vitro germination of mature pollen of Cajauns cajan (L.) Millsp. And Atylosia platycarpa Benth. Differed considerably. For pollen of Cajanus cajan optimal germination was obtained at concentrations of 40% sucrose, 250 ppm calcium nitrate, whereas for pollen of Atylosia platycarpa the optimum concentrations were 20%, 100 ppm and 300 ppm, respectively. The osmotic pressures of the pollen grains also differed; for pollen of Cajanus cajan incipient plasmolysis was observed at 60-65% sucrose and for Atylosia platycarpa pollen this phenomenon was observed at a concentration of 30% sucrose.
