Abstract

Multiple linear regression equations have been derived to estimate and forecast paddy yield for the States of Bihar and Orissa in India. The study is based on data from four coordinated crop weather stations of Bihar and two stations of Orissa. The different phenological periods for which weather elements show significant correlations have been utilized for the derivation of the regression equations. Good agreement is observed between actual and estimated yields. Independent data for two years for each State have also been taken to test the forecast equations with good agreement. The method may be applied to derive similar equations for other regions.
