Abstract

Benomyl and Mancozeb were evaluated for the control of sweet potato leaf scab (Elsinoe batatas) in the humid highlands of Papua New Guinea. The chemicals were used, either singly or alternately, in weekly or biweekly sprayings. The use of Benomyl and weekly sprayings gave the most effective control and reduced the percentage of infected plants from 55% to 15%. A yield loss in marketable and total tuber yield of 34% and 19%, respectively, was attributed to leaf scab infection.
