Abstract

A modified method for estimating flower and pod abscission in pigeonpea, which is rapid and less laborious than previous methods and involves estimation of the number of flowers and pods produced at any time during the reproductive phase is described. The method involves counting the total number of inflorescence scars, pedicel remnants, flowers, and buds, at the end of the study period. The abscission values obtained using this method were closely correlated with those obtained by the more laborious conventional method, and it is concluded that this method can be successfully used.
