Abstract
Live weight and chest girth data on 144 Djallonke and 168 Sahel x Djallonké sheep were used to obtain linear and geometric regression equations for estimating live weight. The coefficients of determination ranged from 0.88-0.93 and 0.96-0.97 for linear and geometric equations, respectively. The geometric equations estimated live weight with a high degree of reliability regardless of girth size, while the linear equations gave very low and frequently negative live weight estimates where girth measurement were below 36 cm.
