Abstract

There seems to be a general consensus in the academic community that a greenhouse gas (GHG)-induced climate change would very likely occur over the next several decades. Such a climate change would most certainly influence the climate-sensitive economic sectors, especially agriculture. This study combines several climate change scenarios with a modified crop model to assess the potential impacts of climate change on sugar cane yields in Trinidad. The results showed that in all scenarios significant decreases in sugar cane yields are projected, these being due mainly to increasing soil moisture stress caused by the warmer climate.
