Abstract
Influences of irrigation with sugar refinery and alcohol fermentation wastewater treated with compound micro-organism preparations on the production of sugar cane (Saccharum officinarum L.). soil fertility, and heavy metal accumulation were investigated in Liuzhou, Guangxi, China. As the four experimental treatments, concentration of CODCr (Chemical Oxygen Demand) in the wastewater was diluted to 300 (A), 500 (B), 1000 (C), and 1500 (D) mg L-1, respectively. Two controls, including no irrigation (ck1) and natural water irrigation (ck2), were included. After one season of irrigation with the treated wastewater, the yields of the sugar cane increased by 41.9-49.0% when compared to that without irrigation and by 0.5-5.0% when compared to that irrigated using natural water. Based on the tested parameters, the qualities of the sugar cane irrigated with the effluents were not significantly different from the controls. The soil pH, contents of total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), total potassium (TK), and heavy metals did not increase significantly after one season of irrigation, while the contents of available P and K in the soil were increased after irrigation.
