Abstract
The view has been expressed that for small, developing economies, such as ours, open trade and foreign direct investment policies are suffidcient to ensure that there is adequate competition. Experience has shown, however, that although open trade and investment policies are necessary to create a market driven and efficient domestic economy, this alone is not sufficient.
