"Torn from the womb of slavery and born again to freedom" – The Interplay of Transcendence and Military Emancipationism"
Claudius Fergus
Enslaved Africans in the Caribbean embraced ancestral spirituality and esotericism to counteract the dehumanization strategies of European enslavers, to forge Pan-African bridges across ethnic clusters of fellow enslaved, and to sustain the generational struggles for emancipation (Rucker 91; Voeks 68, 71-72; Campbell, 4). The current study on this subject was inspired by the representation of African martial esotericism from two different genres of historical interpretation.
